In this
colorful month,
we’ve got a new look
thars fresh and friendly.
“ “ I- ™■ he October issue is always one of my favorites,
with its brilliant autumn colors and the cozy
rooms they inspire. So f am especially happy
that this is the issue that launches a new look for
Better Homes and Gardens
, designed to let photos
and ideas shine. A new layout style makes our pages cleaner
and friendlier to read. We've updated our type style and
graphics for a more modern look that's still true to who we
are. We've got new ways to point out tips and
ahas.
And we've
reinstated more white space— lots of it. “It's like someone
opened a window and let in a breath of fresh air," commented
executive editor Kitty Morgan. I hope you agree.
Along with our new look, we're debuting a new depart-
ment this month: Home Know-How, dedicated to easy
decorating ideas, home-keeping tips, and useful products,
It's inspired by a similar, much-loved department in the
garden section, The Gardener, which we Ye renaming
Garden Know-How. Our monthly Everyday Easy recipes—
meals in 30 minutes or less- -keeps its name but appears in
a new format that our reader panel applauded in previews.
Finally, in a EHG milestone, we're also introducing a
new showcase for winners of our monthly Prize Tested
Recipes contest. For more than seven decades, the
winners' recipes have been printed sideways so they could
be clipped and tucked into the
Better Homes and Gardens
“Red Plaid" cookbook. Now we're giving our winning
recipes a chance to stand tall in a format that's easier to
read and—more important— gives us space to introduce
the talented cooks. Because along with all the other
changes, we're creating more spaces to hear from you each
issue: your e-mails and letters, your posts on Facebook
(facebopk.com/mybhg), and your insights expressed
through The Motherboard, our online panel of moms (join
at BHG.com/Mothcrboard). Let us hear from you!

Front a color expert
Our color of the month,
terra-cotta, plays well with
deep purple accents. Good
to know, because my own
living room has a russett
accent wall— a color move
I've never regretted.
